Keep Mops and Brooms Clean - Dust mops and brooms are the best choices for cleaning hardwood floors. But be sure that you keep these cleaning utensils free of dirt.

Kitchen Floors - One way to get dried food off a kitchen floor quickly and safely is to use a plastic ice scraper normally reserved for your car's windshield

Cleaning Dust Mops Indoors - If it is inconvenient to shake your dust mop outdoors, put a plastic garbage sack over the end of the mop, close the top of the sack around the handle and shake vigorously.

Mildew on Grout - The way to get mildew off of grout, either on tile floors or walls, is to mix 3/4 cup of liquid chlorine bleach to one gallon of water and apply this with a sponge or toothbrush.

Soapy Film - To get rid of the soapy film on tile floors, wipe them with a solution of one part vinegar and four parts water. Rinse with clean water and buff to prevent streaks.

Waxing Dust Pans - If you apply a coat of wax to the surface of your dust pan, the debris you sweep up will slide out much easier.

Heel Marks - You can remove heel marks from wood floors with kerosene or a typewriter eraser.

Less Dirt on Floors - A pair of rough-textured mats - one outside the door and one inside - will stop much of the dirt collected on shoes from being tracked inside your home.

Quick Dry for Wax - Set a portable fan at one end of your kitchen when you wax the floor and the drying time will be reduced dramatically.

Scratches on Wood Floors - Very fine steel wood dipped in floor wax will erase small scratches on wood floors. Rub with the grain.

Moving Heavy Furniture - If you are moving heavy furniture over a floor and it is difficult to lift, put a piece of plush carpet underneath with the pile side down. This will prevent scratches.

Limits on Wax - The maximum number of times that you should wax a floor is eight. Then, it is time to remove the wax and start again.

Another Use for Trash Cans - Your kitchen trash can makes an ideal mop bucket. You can clean the floor and deodorize the can at the same time.

Drinks Spilled on Hardwood - Occasionally, someone spills an alcoholic beverage on a wood floor. Clean this with silver polish or a cloth dampened with ammonia and then rewax.

Masking Scratches on Vinyl - You can disguise bad scratches on vinyl flooring by rubbing them with a dull screwdriver blade and then waxing the area again.

Storing Brooms and Mops - If you store brooms and mops on a wall rack or somewhere other than the floor, they will last longer.

Fabric Walls - Fabric wall coverings such as grass cloth is delicate. Clean this with a hand-held vacuum.
